A Whale of a Tale

Crafted from a singular piece of Huon Pine burl. These pieces are extremely rare and estimated to be in excess of 1500 years old. The Huon Pine story is a piece of history itself with the tree being one of the oldest on the planet and only found in Tasmania. This section of burl was cut over 40 years ago a left to rest in the back of a collectors shed once before the regulation of Tasmanian timber became tight. As this piece re-surfaced it has been turned into a stand alone sculpture showcasing its beautiful figuring including fiddle back and Birdseye patterning. The burl has been mounted onto blackened oak with waves cut from stainless steel.
